In the 100-meter dash final at the 2024 Olympic Games, the favorite was Jamaican Kishayeg Thompson, and he was very close to meeting expectations.
However, American Noah Lyles made an impressive sprint and managed to surpass Thompson by 0.005 seconds. The winner was only determined after a photo finish. Both athletes recorded a time of 9.79 seconds, but Lyles was faster by five thousandths of a second.
This victory brought the USA its 19th gold medal at the Paris Olympics, after which they overtook China and topped the medal standings for the first time in nine days.
