We continue to look at all weight categories of the Olympic Games in Greco-Roman wrestling. Last time we discussed wrestlers in the up to 60 kg category, and now we’ll look at wrestlers up to 67 kg.
Slavik Galstyan will compete among the Armenians in this weight category at the Olympic Games.
There are several interesting and strong athletes in this weight category, but we have identified three main favorites who, in our opinion, have the greatest chance of winning the Olympic Games in Paris.
Luis ORTA SANCHEZ (Cuba) - One of the strongest and most talented wrestlers in his weight category. He is the current world champion in the 67 kg weight category and the current Olympic champion in the 60 kg weight category. After winning last year's World Championships, he showed that he can handle the new weight class with ease and is ready to win gold at the Paris Olympics. His victory at the recent tournament in Budapest once again confirmed his status as a favorite.
Hasrat JAFAROV (Azerbaijan) - A young and talented wrestler from Azerbaijan is only 22 years old. He is one of the strongest representatives of his weight category and is considered a favorite for Olympic gold. Last year at the World Championships, Hasrat became vice-champion, losing in the final to Luis Sanchez (Cuba). He is also the current European champion.
Mohammad Reza GERAI (Iran) - He is the current Olympic champion in the up to 67 kg weight category and a bronze medalist at the World Championships. In recent years, the 27-year-old Iranian has not had such strong results as before the 2021 Olympic Games. After his triumph in Tokyo and the World Championships, Geraei failed to achieve victories at the same level, but he managed to escape to the Olympic Games in Paris. His inconsistent results do not detract from his reputation as one of the strongest wrestlers in his category, and he is sure to be a serious contender at the Olympics.
