The football club "Alashkert" had an uneven season and, for the first time in many years, did not qualify for European competitions, finishing 5th in the Armenian championship. This could seriously impact the club's budget, leading to plans for a complete overhaul during the summer break.
This was stated in the club's official announcement:
"The 2023-2024 season of the Armenian Premier League IDBANK has concluded, and it was not very successful for our team, which is always striving for top positions. "Alashkert" finished 5th in the league standings.
We want to inform you that the club's management is optimistic and plans to take practical steps to create a more competitive and stronger team in the future. In particular, starting tomorrow, June 3rd, the football club "Alashkert" will begin the process of recruiting a new team."
At the start of the season, "Alashkert" performed very well in the Conference League. Vahé Gevorgyan's team defeated the Montenegrin "Arsenal" with an aggregate score of 7-1 in the first round of qualification, and in the second round, "Alashkert" put up a real fight against the Hungarian "Debrecen", but ultimately, the Hungarians proved stronger in the penalty shootout.
In the Armenian championship, "Alashkert" fought for 4th place with "Urartu" until the very end but missed the chance in a head-to-head match, losing 1-6.
It is still unknown whether the ambitious and young coach Vahé Gevorgyan, who instilled an attacking and aggressive style of play in the team, will remain with the club.
