On August 7, in Paris, the first Olympic champions in men's boxing were determined. The gold medals at the Olympic Games were won by Cuban Erislandy Alvarez and Ukrainian Oleksandr Khyzhniak.
In the final of the 63.5 kg weight category, Cuban boxer Erislandy Alvarez defeated Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha by split decision with a score of 3-2. This was the first Olympics for the 24-year-old Cuban. Previously, he had not won major tournaments but was the silver medalist at the 2023 World Championships. Sofiane Oumiha is a three-time world champion and a two-time silver medalist at the Olympic Games.

This is Khyzhniak's second Olympic medal; previously, he was a silver medalist in Tokyo, and in Paris, he improved his result by winning gold.
