Armenian weightlifter Andranik Karapetyan secured 7th place at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in the 89 kg weight category.
Andranik’s participation in the Paris Olympics is already an achievement. During his first Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio, he suffered a severe injury, after which he returned to the sport and managed to qualify.
At the Paris Olympics, the 28-year-old athlete made one successful attempt in both the snatch and clean & jerk, lifting 170 kg and 200 kg, respectively. With a total of 370 kg in the biathlon, Andranik Karapetyan placed 7th.
In the snatch, Karapetyan was close to winning the small bronze, but the judges did not count his attempt at 177 kg due to an elbow movement.
The Olympic champion in the 89 kg weight class was 20-year-old Bulgarian Karlos Nasar, who set a new world record by lifting a phenomenal 404 kg in total.
