Two judokas of Armenian descent, Aram Grigoryan (UAE) and Eduard Trippel (Germany), have concluded their performances at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Both athletes competed in the under 90 kg weight category in judo.
Eduard Trippel has Armenian roots on his father's side. At the previous Olympics in Tokyo, he won a silver medal, but in Paris, he lost in the very first match. In the round of 32, he was defeated by Sweden's Marcus Nyman.
Aram Grigoryan performed better and came closer to winning a medal. He reached the quarter-finals by defeating Sweden's Marcus Nyman and Uzbekistan's Davlat Bobonov. In the quarter-finals, Grigoryan lost to the future finalist, Japan's Sanshiro Murao.
The champion in the weight class up to 90 kg was Georgian Lasha Bekauri, who defeated ippon in the final Sanshiro Murao.
