Armenia and Georgia intend to submit a joint bid to host the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2029. This was announced by the presidents of the football federations of Armenia and Georgia, Armen Melikbekyan and Levan Kobiashvili, at a joint press conference.
In connection with the upcoming championship, Armenia plans to build two new stadiums in regions close to the border with Georgia — in Dilijan and Vanadzor. The Republican Stadium in Yerevan will also be used, along with a new stadium that is currently in the project phase, with construction set to begin soon.
The joint hosting of the tournament will strengthen sports cooperation between Armenia and Georgia and create excellent conditions for youth teams from all over the world. Moreover, the preparation for the championship will make a significant contribution to the development of sports infrastructure in both countries, which will positively impact the promotion of football among the youth.
The final decision on the tournament's location will be made in 2025.
