Armenian gymnast Silva Sargsyan was initially registered to participate for Armenia in the rhythmic gymnastics competitions at the BRICS Games 2024, which will take place in Kazan. However, she later decided to withdraw from the competition.
In an interview with Match TV, Silva Sargsyan explained the reasons for her withdrawal. The main reason was the appointment of an Azerbaijani judge as the chief judge of the competition, which caused dissatisfaction on the Armenian side.
"Initially, an Armenian representative was appointed as the chief judge. Then they changed it, and now the chief judge of the competition is from Azerbaijan. That's why Armenia withdrew," said Silva Sargsyan.
Nevertheless, Armenia continues to participate in the BRICS Games in other disciplines. Armenian athletes have already won 7 medals, including 1 gold and 6 bronze, in sports such as karate, wushu, and sambo.
