Today, on May 30, the 44th international freestyle wrestling tournament “Takhti Cup” started in the Iranian city of Zanjan.
Today the preliminary round bouts took place and now all the finalists of the tournament are known in the weight categories of 57kg, 65kg, 74kg, 86kg and 97kg,
Armenian wrestlers also took part in the tournament, but unfortunately none of them reached the final.
Manvel Khndzrtsyan (57 kg) and Hrachya Margaryan (65 kg) lost in the semifinals. Tomorrow they will fight for bronze medals.
Results of the semifinals of Armenian wrestlers:
57 kg: Mehdi Veisi (Iran) - Manvel Hndzrtsyan (Armenia) 3:2
65 kg: Hrachya Margaryan (Armenia) - Peyman Nemati (Iran) 1:2.
In the history of the Takhti Cup, only two Armenians have won this tournament: Araik Gevorgyan (in the 90s) and Vazgen Tevanyan (in 2022).
