Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler who competes for Russia Narek Ohanyan said that in the future he may change his sports citizenship to compete at the Olympic Games.
Recently, Ohanyan won gold at the BRICS Games in the 72 kg weight category, defeating Kazakh Merzhan Shermakhambet.
“Today I was lucky that everything turned out the way I planned. We have already met before, I won, but not so quickly.
— What is the significance of the BRICS Games medal for you?
“Like all medals, it justifies my work and the effort I put in.” Bring me pleasure.
— How many people in your weight category applied for a trip to the BRICS Games?
— Initially they wanted to put up two numbers: me and the second one. At the last moment we changed our minds and decided to travel in one train.
— You are from Armenia, have you ever thought about changing your sports citizenship?
— I spent quite a lot of time in Russia, I have family and friends here. I'm happy with everything. It so happens that I am in Russia, so there is no point in changing anything.
— Are you also satisfied with not being allowed to participate in the Olympics?
“I compete in the up to 72 kg category, the Olympic category up to 77. When I fight in the up to 77 kg category, then I’ll think about changing my citizenship, but not yet,” the Match TV correspondent reports Ohanyan’s words.
