On May 24th, Baku hosted the European U23 Freestyle Wrestling Championship. On the first day Arsen Balayan (Russia) started his race for gold in the weight category up to 79 kg.
Arsen started to fight from 1/8 finals, where his rival was Georgian wrestler Otari Adeishvili, whom he defeated with the score 10:0.
In 1/4 finals his opponent was Belarus' Artem Belousov, whom he defeated with the score 9:0.
And in the semifinals his opponent was the current vice-champion of Europe, Greek - Georgios Kougiomtsidis. Unfortunately, he defeated him with a score of 3:1.
But we can consider it a successful tournament for Arsen, as this is his first international tournament for him, and he showed a very high level. For bronze his opponent will be the winner of the consolation bout between an Italian and a Pole.
And Herbert Hakobyan (57 kg) in 1/4 finals defeated the Turk, with the score 5:15, and for bronze will fight against Ukrainian Vladislav Abramov.
