Armenian wrestlers Malkhas Amoyan and Artur Aleksanyan, as well as athlete Ervand Mkrtchyan, met with fans at the "Olympic House of Armenia" in Paris after the completion of their performances at the 2024 Olympics.
Artur Aleksanyan:
"We felt the support of all our compatriots in the arena during all the matches. Thank you very much. You really give us strength. In 2017, I became the world champion in France, and both then and now, I felt the warmth and support of our compatriots. I remember that at the World Championship, it felt like I was wrestling in Yerevan because there were so many Armenians in the arena. I felt the same way yesterday, and I am very grateful for this support," said Artur Aleksanyan.
Malkhas Amoyan:
"Undoubtedly, every athlete's dream is to become an Olympic champion. I also came to Paris for a gold medal, but this time I settled for bronze. I am happy that I was able to win a medal for Armenia. The atmosphere at the Olympics was amazing, as if it were a celebration, and we received a huge boost of energy. In the Olympic Village, we observed different emotions among both winners and losers. Athletic life is short, and these moments will always remain in our memory.
I am glad that I can uphold the honor of both the Armenian and Yezidi peoples and bring joy to my people. I will try to perform even better in the future," said Malkhas Amoyan.
Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia, Karen Giloyan, added his words of gratitude:
"It's surprising when you are disappointed with a silver medal. Nevertheless, this is the reality. Artur Aleksanyan is the third athlete in the history of Greco-Roman wrestling to win four medals at the Olympics. Artur has been competing at the highest level for more than 13 years and wins medals every year. Malkhas Amoyan, a world champion in the 72 kg weight category, recently changed his category to 77 kg. Despite this, he was ready to become a champion even now. I believe that Malkhas will still make his mark. Ervand Mkrtchyan set an Armenian record, which is a very good result," said Karen Giloyan and congratulated our athletes on their successful performances and won medals.
Let us recall that Artur Aleksanyan became the silver medalist in the 97 kg weight category in Greco-Roman wrestling, and Malkhas Amoyan won bronze in the 77 kg category.
