On August 6, the second day of wrestling competitions at the 2024 Olympic Games is taking place in Paris. Today, athletes are competing in the Greco-Roman wrestling weight categories up to 77 and 97 kg, as well as in the women's category up to 50 kg.
The semifinals have concluded, and we now know which pairs will compete for medals in the mentioned weight categories in the finals.
Greco-Roman wrestling legend Artur Aleksanyan in the 97 kg weight category is aiming to win his fourth Olympic medal. In the semifinal match, he took revenge for last year's World Championship defeat when a minor mistake in the last seconds caused him to lose to Cuban Gabriel Rosillo. This time, Artur did not repeat those mistakes and defeated his opponent with a score of 5:3, securing his place in the Olympic final.
Before the semifinals, Artur defeated South Korean Seungjun Kim and Uzbek Rustam Assakalov.
The final against Iranian Mohammad Hadi Saravi will take place on August 7 at 21:30 Yerevan time.
Final (97 kg): Artur Aleksanyan (Armenia) — Mohammad Hadi Saravi (Iran).
Another Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler, Malkhas Amoyan (77 kg), lost in the semifinal to Japanese Nao Kusaka with a score of 1:3. Tomorrow, Amoyan will compete for bronze, with his opponent to be determined later.
