The fifth day of the Olympic Games in wrestling is taking place in Paris on August 9. Today, freestyle wrestlers in the 74 kg and 125 kg weight categories took to the mat for the first time.
In the 1/8 finals in the 74 kg weight category, Ossetian wrestler Chermen Valiyev, competing for Albania, met with Azerbaijani Turan Bayramov. Until the last seconds of the fight, Bayramov held a 1-point advantage. However, in the last seconds, Valiyev was able to break ahead, earning the necessary point and turning the score into a 3:3 draw. The Azerbaijani team's challenge did not help, and after its incorrect application, the score became 4:3 in Valiyev's favor. Thus, Valiyev advanced to the 1/4 finals.
In turn, Chermen Valiyev lost in the quarterfinals to the representative of Uzbekistan Razambek Jamalov with a score of 6:5. This means that Turan Bayramov will not get a chance for a bronze medal, since Valiyev failed to reach the semifinals. A few months ago, at the European Olympic License Tournament, which was held in Baku, a controversial moment occurred. In the final fight in the weight category up to 74 kg for a ticket to the Olympic Games, the Italian wrestler Frank Chamizo and the same Azerbaijani Turan Bayramov met. The fight was tense, and in the last seconds Chamizo managed to force Bayramov to put his knee on the mat. However, despite a re-watch, the judges did not award a point to the Italian, and the ticket went to Bayramov. After this, the Italian Wrestling Federation filed a lawsuit, winning the case, but this practically did not change anything. As a result, Bayramov went to the Olympic Games instead of Chamizo. As the result showed, the Azerbaijani was unable to show himself on the Parisian carpet and dropped out of the fight for medals in the very first fight. Karma sometimes plays a role in sports.
