Armenia's representative Baregham Harutyunyan (51kg) unfortunately lost his chances for Olympic qualification.
In the 1/16 finals of the licence tournament in Bangkok, the 35-year-old Armenian boxer lost to 23-year-old Chinese Liu Chaun by unanimous decision of the judges.
Baregam showed a very high quality fight, he outclassed his opponent in speed and more often worked the first number, but the judges did not give him a single round. All judges gave scores of 30-27 in favour of the Chinese inexplicably.
Baregam started the tournament with a bright victory by knockout against the Tunisian, but lost at the stage of 1/16 finals.
Six boxers continue to fight for the Olympic quota in the Armenian national team: Rafael Hovhannisyan (80 kg), Narek Manasyan (92 kg), Davit Chaloyan (+92 kg), Anush Grigoryan (50 kg), Ekaterina Sycheva (54 kg) and Ani Hovsepyan (66 kg).
