One of the main favorites in freestyle wrestling in the 57 kg category at the 2024 Olympic Games, Stevan Micic, will miss the tournament in Paris due to an injury. The Serbian wrestler was expected to compete with Armenian wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan for the medals.
Stevan Micic made every effort to compete in Paris, but unfortunately, he was unable to do so. He has a posterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee, which is serious, and requires surgery.
It is not yet known whether Micic will be replaced on the Serbian national team, but there is very little time left for preparation. The freestyle wrestling tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games starts on August 8, and the draw will take place on August 7.
Stevan Micic addressed his fans on social media:
"After much thought and prayer, I am very sad to say that I will not be able to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris.
A few weeks ago, I injured my knee during training. As the preparation for the competition became more intense, the injury worsened, seriously limiting my ability to prepare at the highest level required to compete and achieve the results I am capable of.
Doctors told me that if I want to continue wrestling, I need to have reconstructive surgery. I have no choice but to withdraw from the Olympic Games in Paris, regroup, have the surgery, and begin the recovery process.
These circumstances have completely broken me. Participating in the Olympic Games and winning them has been my dream since I was 8 years old. Before the injury, I was more confident than ever and was on the path to performing at the highest level and achieving my ultimate goal. I can’t wait to recover and see what comes next."
