World champion and Greco-Roman wrestler Nugzar Tsurtsumiya was found dead. The athlete’s body was found in his own home in the city of Khobi in northwestern Georgia.
The legendary Georgian wrestler probably committed suicide. And the reason for this was the tragic events in Nugzar’s life that occurred over the past six months: his father, brother and mother passed away. He probably couldn't cope with such a loss.
Currently he ranks 2nd in the UWW rankings, in the up to 55 kg category. In 2019, he became the World Champion in Nur-Sultan. He was a four-time European medalist. And last year he won silver at the European Championships in Belgrade.
We offer our deepest condolences to Nugzar’s family and friends, as well as the entire wrestling community of Georgia.
