On August 11, the final day of the Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling was held in Paris, where medalists were determined in the weight categories up to 65 and 97 kg.
A lot of interesting events took place at the Olympic Games, but the result of Dagestani wrestlers, who became the most successful at these games, stands out in particular. Despite the fact that Russian wrestlers do not participate in the Olympics, Dagestani athletes still arrived in Paris. Although some of them were not able to fully reveal their potential, others fulfilled their dreams.
A representative of Uzbekistan in the weight category up to 74 kg, Razambek Zhamalov, who held a perfect tournament and won Olympic gold, stands out especially against all the Dagestani wrestlers. He overcame the "group of death", defeating almost all the favorites. In the 1/16 finals, he easily defeated the vice-champion of the Olympic Games Magomedkhabib Kadimagomedov. In the 1/8 finals, he won the European Champion from Slovakia, Taimuraz Salkazanov, with a score of 11:3. In the 1/4 finals, he won against the representative of Albania, Chermen Valiev, with a score of 6:5, and in the semi-finals, he beat the representative of Tajikistan, Viktor Rassadin. In the finals, Razambek Zhamalov defeated the Japanese Daichi Takatani with almost no problems, putting him on the fall and becoming the Olympic Champion.
Another significant event was the winning of Olympic gold by 21-year-old Akhmed Tazhudinov, who competed in the weight category up to 97 kg. At 21, he has already managed to win almost all the prestigious awards, and today his collection was replenished with the latest trophy - Olympic gold.
In the semi-finals, Akhmed again met with the American legend, Kyle Snyder, and won with a score of 6:4. And in the final, showing confidence and skill, he easily defeated Georgian Givi Macharashvili, putting him on the ground and winning Olympic gold for the first time in his career.
A very unexpected event was the winning of the gold medal by Magomed Ramazanov, who competed in the weight category up to 86 kg. First, he defeated the representative of the USA Aaron Brooks, who had previously left the legendary David Taylor behind. In the final, Ramazanov dealt with the Olympic champion from Iran Hasan Yazdani, demonstrating impressive skill and confidence.
Dagestani legionnaires earned 3 gold and 2 bronze medals throughout the freestyle wrestling tournament.
