On August 10 in Paris, the Olympic medalists in freestyle wrestling in the 74 and 125 kg weight categories were determined in the evening program.
In the final fight for the gold medal in the 74 kg weight category, Japanese wrestler and medalist of the World and Asian Championships Daichi Takatani met with the representative of Uzbekistan, a student of the Dagestani school Razambek Zhamalov. In this fight, the Dagestani athlete turned out to be stronger, who, leading with a score of 4:0, defeated his opponent ahead of schedule, putting him on both shoulder blades (fall), and became the new Olympic champion.
It is important to note that Razambek Zhamalov is a student of the Satiev wrestling school, and it was former Olympic champion Adam Saitiev who accompanied him to these Olympic Games. Thus, another Olympic gold medal was added to the Dagestani school's collection.
Before reaching Paris, Razambek Zhamalov had undergone several operations and suffered defeats at the Russian Championships. Many experts had already written him off, but he proved that their predictions were wrong. Coming out of the "group of death", Razambek reached the final, where he met with a Japanese wrestler who had defeated one of the strongest wrestlers in the world - Kyle Dake. In the final, he won a confident victory without experiencing any particular difficulties.
Podium in the wrestlers up to 74 kg:
1. Razambek Zhamalov (Uzbekistan)
2. Daichi Takatani
3. Kyle Dake (USA)
3. Chermen Valiev (Albania)
