David Taylor has officially ended his career as an athlete, and has already started his coaching job with the Oklahoma State team.
He ended his career as an athlete last month after failing to make the Olympic team at the 2024 U.S. Olympic qualifiers. He was defeated in bouts by Penn State's Aaron Brooks, who claimed a spot on the Olympic team.
David Taylor was an NCAA, world and Olympic champion, as was Cowboy legend John Smith. Smith captained OSU's 1992 team.
Smith announced his retirement on April 11, and many expected assistant head coach Coleman Scott to be his successor.
But as time moved forward after Smith's resignation, rumors and reports of other candidates began to surface, including Taylor.
During his career, Taylor was a four-time finalist and two-time winner of NCAA championships, then won three gold medals at world championships and gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Other than a brief message welcoming Taylor to OSU, the university has not commented on his hiring in any way.
