In Dortmund, at the BVB stadium, a clash occurred between Georgian and Turkish fans before the EURO 2024 match between Turkey and Georgia.
According to a Reuters reporter inside the stadium, about 40 fans from each side were involved in brief scuffles before the police intervened and separated them.
Additionally, clashes between fans occurred about an hour before the match. Tension between the fans of the two countries seemed to have reached a critical point. The police quickly responded to the incident, separating the aggressive groups and preventing further escalation of violence.
Dortmund police officials stated that several individuals were detained for questioning, but serious injuries were avoided thanks to the quick response of law enforcement and stadium security services.
However, the unrest continued in the stadium and escalated into a fight. Moreover, Turkish fans, who were in the majority in Dortmund, booed the Georgian anthem.
The Turkish national team defeated Georgia 3-1 and topped Group F.
Mert Müldür opened the scoring in the 24th minute, then Georges Mikautadze equalized, but Arda Güler put Turkey ahead again. Kerem Aktürkoğlu sealed the match by scoring the third goal in the 97th minute.
