ONE FC league is planning to hold a Featherweight Grand Prix that could feature Marat Grigoryan, Chingiz Allazov, Superbon and Giorgio Petrosyan, ONE FC league press office announced.
The ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix will return in 2024, ONE Championship league president Chatri Sityodtong announced.
The division is led by champion Chingiz "Chinga" Allazov, who won the title after winning his second ONE World Grand Prix. If he competes in the upcoming Grand Prix, he could become both a two-time winner and the reigning World Champion at this weight.
Interim titleholder Superbon will also take part and will be in the opposite group from Allazov. This opens up the possibility of a final bout between the reigning and interim champions for the Grand Prix title and possibly the status of undisputed division champion.
The Grand Prix card could also include third-ranked Sitthichai Sitsongpinong. He is scheduled to compete at ONE 167: Tawanchai vs Nattawut II in Bangkok in June. Both Sittichai and his opponent Masaaki Noiri, who has won world K-1 tournaments in two divisions in the past, could be on the Grand Prix card.
Fourth division number four and reigning ONE Tawanchai P.K. Saenchai, the reigning ONE Muay Thai world featherweight champion, could also take part, and improve his position in the rankings.
Of course, the card of the strongest kickboxers cannot be imagined without former world title challenger Marat Grigoryan, who pushed both Allazov and Superbone to the limit of their physical capabilities.
One of the most anticipated participants of the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix 2024 tournament is living legend of the sport Giorgio Petrosyan. He was the first winner of this prestigious ONE league tournament, for which he received $1 million. Petrosyan has not stepped into an ONE ring since his loss to Superbone in 2021, but is still under contract with ONE Championship.
On 18 May, Giorgio Petrosyan celebrated his return to the big time with a win over Sergio Sanchez at PetrosyanMania in Milan.
Returning to ONE ring in a high-profile Grand Prix is a great move for Petrosyan, and a second win could cement his legacy in the sport.
