Greco-Roman wrestler Edmond Nazaryan (60 kg), representing Bulgaria, is not entered for the final Olympic licence tournament in Istanbul.
The 22-year-old Armenian was on the original list of the Bulgarian national team, but the list was updated today. Now Nedyalko Petrov is declared for Bulgaria in the weight category up to 60kg. Probably, Edmond has an injury now, so he has to miss the qualification. Consequently, he will also miss the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. However, there is an option that Petrov will win the quota and Nazaryan will go to the Olympic Games, sometimes it happens, but it would be disrespectful to Petrov from the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation.
But still Edmond Nazaryan's absence at the Olympics is a big loss for everyone, as he is one of the best in the world at 60kg. At the age of 22, the son of the legendary Armen Nazaryan is already a 2-time European champion and silver medallist of the 2022 World Championships.
Earlier Edmond Nazaryan did not win the Olympic quota, as he lost at the 2023 World Championships to Armenia's Gevorg Gharibyan, and he did not go to the European Qualification in Baku for security reasons. Well, he will not go to the last tournament due to injury.
The World Wrestling Qualification will be held in Istanbul from 9 to 13 May. Full list of participants HERE.
