Press conference of "Pyunik" head coach Eghishe Melikyan after the victorious match against "Struga" in the Conference League. Let us remind you that the Armenian team advanced to the third round of qualifications based on the results of two matches.
Eghishe Melikyan's opening remarks:
"Yes, the victory is not accidental. We prepared excellently for the match. As I have said before, we always play better when we are well acquainted with the opponent. Our tactics worked, and I never doubted that. We can analyze our matches and learn lessons from them. We are open to criticism, but it is important for everyone to understand: Pyunik is never toothless.
We serve as an example for all Armenian clubs in terms of character.
There is a lot of pressure on us in our country, but we cope with it. I am sure not all clubs could withstand such trials.
But, despite everything, we won, even against all critics."
— Today, the full-backs were unusually active in attack. Was that a tactical decision?
— Yes, it was a new tactic, involving risk. But we were losing, so we had to take risks. We decided that the central midfielders should stay on defense while the full-backs joined the attacks. We actively changed positions on the field. It was difficult, but we thoroughly prepared for this tactical scheme.
— Did you believe the match would end in regular time?
— Of course, I believed it, but I was prepared for any outcome.
— What are your impressions of Lucas Villela's and Martim Maia's game?
— Lucas continues to progress in Pyunik, as do all the other players who stay in our club. As for Alemao and Maia, I suggest remembering Wagner in his first months, who played worse and then opened up. Our playing system is complex, so newcomers need time. We pay great attention to tactics, so soon all newcomers will find their place.
— Why was Voskanian substituted at halftime?
— Taron is just starting to adapt to our team. I have a special approach to working with defenders since I was a defender too, but I have not yet had the opportunity to work with Taron and bring him to the necessary level, so I decided not to risk it and instead brought out Bratkov, whom I know well."
