Armenia's Ekaterina Sycheva (54 kg) won her first fight at the Olympic qualification in Bangkok and advanced to the 1/8 finals.
In 1/16 finals Sycheva was stronger than Sweden's Sara Svensson. Her next opponent is Hannah Lakotar (Hungary), bronze medallist of the World Championships 2024. The Hungarian defeated Fotima Begmuradova of Tajikistan in 1/16 finals.
Ekaterina needs 2 more wins to qualify for the Olympic quota.
Earlier in the first Olympic selection from Armenia in this weight Tatevik Khachatryan performed, but then she lost in the first fight. Now 32-year-old Sycheva, who has been competing for Armenia since 2022 and previously competed for Russia, is trying to win the quota.
