Yesterday we learned that it is now official that tennis player Elina Avanesyan has changed her sporting citizenship and represents Armenia. She will be competing under the Armenian flag at the upcoming tournament.
The athlete confirmed this on her social media:
"It is a great honor for me to announce that I have received Armenian citizenship and will proudly represent Armenia, starting Monday at the 'Cincinnati Open' tournament!
This journey has been incredible, and I am excited about the opportunity to showcase my best on the court and to represent the Homeland of my ancestors! Thank you all for your unwavering support!" wrote Elina Avanesyan.
The "Cincinnati Open" starts on August 11.
