Tennis player Elina Avanesyan took part in the tournament for the first time as an Armenian citizen. She started with a victory at the WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open tournament.
In qualifying, the 21-year-old Armenian defeated the American in two sets and advanced to the qualifying final.
