The German national team defeated Hungary 2-0 in the second round of EURO 2024 and secured their exit from Group A into the round of 16.
Germany became the fifth host country to win both of their first two games in the UEFA European Championship after Spain in 1964, France in 1984, the Netherlands in 2000, and France in 2016; three of these four previous teams at least reached the final of the tournament (excluding EURO 2020, which was hosted by 11 countries).
In the match against Hungary, the score was opened in the 22nd minute thanks to a precise strike by Jamal Musiala. The second goal was scored in the 67th minute by Ilkay Gündogan, giving the team a comfortable lead. The victory over Hungary guaranteed Germany's advancement to the playoffs, making them the first team to reach this stage in EURO 2024.
Ilkay Gündogan was named the best player of the match.
