On August 10 in Paris, the Olympic medalists in freestyle wrestling in the weight categories up to 74 and 125 kg were determined in the evening program.
In the final fight for the gold medal in the weight category up to 125 kg, two main favorites met: Iranian Amir Zare and Georgian Geno Petriashvili. The fight was tense until the last moments. In the first period, the Georgian athlete almost finished the fight ahead of schedule, scoring 12:1, thanks to successful flips on the ground. However, after the challenge of the Iranian side, two points were deducted because the Iranian was outside the mat area, and the score became 10:1. In the second period, the Iranian went on the attack and almost reduced the gap to 10:9, but did not have enough strength to earn the last points and win. As a result, the Georgian wrestler withstood the onslaught and became an Olympic champion on his third attempt.
Before this, Geno Petriashvili already had two Olympic medals: bronze from Rio and silver from Tokyo. Now he has a whole set of Olympic medals in his collection.
