We will talk about another legend of Soviet football. Our hero is Khoren Oganesian, another Armenian who made history in Soviet football.
Oganesian deservedly became the best midfielder in the USSR twice and was twice included in the list of the best Soviet footballers. During his career, he scored 135 goals. This is an excellent result for a midfielder.
Khoren is one of the Armenian footballers who participated in the World Cups as part of the USSR national team. In 1982, he competed in the World Cup in Spain, playing against the national teams of New Zealand, Belgium, and Poland.
There were many memorable matches in Oganesian's football career, but I would like to focus on a couple of them.
The first match was against the Argentina national team, held on December 4, 1980, in the Argentine city of Mar del Plata, where the USSR national team played against the reigning world champion, Argentina. The great Maradona opened the score in the 19th minute of the game, and just two minutes later, Oganesian equalized.
The second match took place in 1982 as part of the World Cup, where the USSR national team met with the Belgian national team. In the 48th minute of the game against the Belgians, Khoren scored the only and winning goal.
