On July 31, the Olympic medal draw in judo in the weight category up to 70 kg among women took place in Paris.
Croatian representative Barbara Matic won the gold medal, having won a convincing victory over German Mariam Butkereit in the final. This was the first Olympic medal of the Croatian judo team in history.
On the way to the final, Barbara won the following victories: in the 1/8 finals, she defeated Italian Kima Polling, in the 1/4 finals - Spanish Ali Tsunoda, and in the 1/2 finals - Dutch Sanne Van Dijk.
