Both Armenian gymnasts, Artur Davtyan and Vahe Davtyan, have completed their performances at the 2024 Olympic Games and have already returned to Yerevan. At Zvartnots Airport, the gymnasts were greeted very ceremoniously with music and dancing.
A large number of fans and media representatives awaited the arrival of the athletes and coaches of the Armenian team. Upon arrival, the gymnasts signed autographs and gave a short interview.
The 2024 Olympic silver medalist, Artur Davtyan, noted that he was satisfied with his performance and that he was able to improve on his result from the Tokyo Olympics (where he won bronze) but regrets not being able to win gold. He intends to compete in the next Olympics in Los Angeles. According to Artur, he lacked difficulty in his second vault: he performed the jump cleanly, but the complexity of the winner, Filipino Carlos Yulo, was 0.4 points higher. Artur also noted that the judges unfairly rated Carlos's second jump too highly.
Artur Davtyan finished second in the vault with a score of 14.966.
Another Armenian gymnast, Vahe Davtyan, placed sixth in the rings final. Vahe was pleased with his result, as were his coaches. He showed his maximum and an ideal performance.
The 2024 Olympic Games continue for Armenian athletes. On August 7, Artur Aleksanyan will compete in the Greco-Roman wrestling final against Iranian Mohammad Hadi Saravi, while Malkhas Amoyan will fight for bronze in the 77 kg weight category. Another classical wrestler, Slavik Galstyan, will begin his performances on August 7, as will track and field athlete Ervand Mkrtchyan.
In the final days of the Olympics, Armenia will be represented by two more freestyle wrestlers, Arsen Harutyunyan and Vazgen Tevanyan, as well as three weightlifters: Andranik Karapetyan, Garik Karapetyan, and Varazdat Lalayan.
