The head coach of Armenia's boxing team, Karen Agamalyan, commented on David Chaloyan's performances at the 2024 Olympic Games.
David Chaloyan (+92 kg) had two fights at the Olympic Games in Paris. In the first fight, he defeated British boxer Delicious Orie, and in the second, he lost to Spanish boxer Ayoub Ghadfa.
In an interview with a correspondent from Sport.Mediamax.am, Karen Agamalyan said that he was satisfied with Chaloyan's performance but regretted not being able to win a medal.
"Unfortunately, we couldn't even secure a bronze. He won the first fight thanks to his speed. For his weight class, Chaloyan is very fast, and that's his advantage. But in the second fight, it didn't work out. His speed wasn't enough, as he had suffered a leg injury two months ago. I noticed that during the fight, he was a bit cautious with his movements, and maybe that affected the result.
He put up a fight against the Spaniard and showed character, but unfortunately, he couldn't win. I am satisfied with his performance, but of course, I regret the loss.
As for the number of our boxers at the Olympics, I want to complain about the refereeing and so on. We fought on two fronts, and the battle between the IBA and the IOC played its part. Ohanesyan and Madoyan won 3 and 4 fights, which is usually enough for a world championship, but they didn't earn an Olympic quota. What can I say? Bachkov's injury also hindered us."
Karen Agamalyan added that he considers Bakhodir Jalolov from Uzbekistan the favorite for gold in the +92 kg weight category.
The coach also mentioned that he was satisfied with the organization of the Olympic Games and that nothing hindered their performance.
