In the 1/4 finals in the weight category up to 77 kg, Kazakh wrestler Demeu Zhadrayev met with the current world champion in this weight category, Kyrgyz wrestler Akzhol Makhmudov.
During the fight, the Kazakh athlete managed to earn a key point, which allowed him to defeat the world champion and advance to the semi-finals of the Olympic Games. The Kyrgyz wrestler was unable to prove himself at the proper level. The final score of the fight was 3:1 in favor of Demeu Zhadrayev.
