The Olympic wrestling tournament will take place in Paris (France) in August. Russian athletes have won 16 licenses for the Olympic Games - six in freestyle wrestling, five each in Greco-Roman and women's wrestling. Expanded rosters of potential participants were sent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in March, but in the final release on the IOC website there are only 10 athletes - four each in freestyle and women's wrestling and two in Greco-Roman, while all top wrestlers were excluded from the roster , out of the 10 listed athletes, only four are real leaders in their weight categories. FSBR President Mikhail Mamiashvili commented on the current situation
“We have won 16 Olympic licenses, but only 10 of our athletes received documents from the IOC, which require them to sign an agreement to potentially compete at the Games in a neutral status, on compliance with the Olympic Charter and the statutes of the World Anti-Doping Agency. Unfortunately, our top ones are not on this list athletes, which caused us bewilderment. The deadline is tomorrow. The athletes who received these documents expressed their desire to participate in the Olympic Games, and members of the FSBR executive committee unanimously supported them in this. Today, these documents are sent to the IOC, but to say that our athletes will participate. in the Olympics it is still too early to finally confirm,” said Mikhail Mamiashvili.
Olympic champions Abdulrashid Sadulaev (97kg), Zaurbek Sidakov (74kg) and Zavur Uguev (57kg) will not participate in the Olympic Games.
The list of participants in the Olympic Games, determined by the IOC, includes four freestyle wrestlers - European Championship medalist Nachyn Mongush (up to 57 kg), World Championship medalist Shamil Mamedov (up to 65 kg), winner of the European U-23 Championship Arslan Bagaev (up to 86 kg) and medalist of the European Championship U-23 Abdulla Kurbanov (up to 125 kg); two representatives of Greco-Roman wrestling - Alan Ostaev (up to 87 kg) and European Championship medalist Magomed Murtazaliev (up to 97 kg); four representatives of women's wrestling - European Championship medalists Natalya Malysheva (up to 53 kg) and Veronika Chumikova (up to 57 kg), as well as Alina Kasabieva (up to 63 kg) and Elizaveta Petlyakova (up to 68 kg).
