The boxing tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games continues. On the third day of the competition, the 1/8 finals took place in two weight categories among men (63.5 kg and +92 kg), as well as in the 60 kg category among women.
One of the surprises in the 63.5 kg weight category among men was the defeat of Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Australian Harry Garside, who lost to Hungarian Richard Kovacs.
In the men's super heavyweight category (+92 kg), several interesting fights took place. Armenian boxer David Chaloyan defeated the 2023 European Games champion, Briton Delicious Orie. At the European Games, Chaloyan lost to Orie, but he took revenge at the Olympics.
Also, one of the favorites in this weight category, Kamshybek Kunkabayev from Kazakhstan, the bronze medalist of Tokyo and two-time silver medalist of world championships, was defeated. He lost by a split decision to the European champion, Spaniard Ayoub Ghadfa, who will face Chaloyan in the quarterfinals.
A surprising defeat was also suffered by Azerbaijani Mahammad Abdullayev, a two-time bronze medalist of world championships, losing to German Nelvi Tiaffac.
Even more unexpectedly, Brazilian Abner Teixeira, the bronze medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, was defeated. He lost to Ecuadorian Gerlon Congo, whom he had previously beaten multiple times in South American tournaments, but lost at the Olympic Games.
