Legendary Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler, fear of all rivals at the Olympic Games
The draw for the Olympic wrestling grids will take place today, and tomorrow the Greco-Roman wrestlers will begin their performances. The Armenian Greco-Roman wrestling team is already in Paris and is fully prepared for the tournament. One of the strongest and most titled wrestlers of his time, Olympic champion, 4-time world champion and 7-time European champion Artur Aleksanyan will compete in the Armenian national team in the 97 kg weight category.
At 32 years old, Artur is the main favorite for Olympic gold. He has worthy rivals, but Artur, as always, carefully prepares for major tournaments both mentally and physically. He suffered his last defeat at the 2023 World Championships from Cuban Gabriel Rosillo. In that fight, Artur had a 2-point advantage, but relaxed in the last seconds and accidentally missed a point, which ultimately led to a 3-3 defeat. Knowing Artur's character, one can be sure that a rematch will be inevitable. Apart from such opponents as Mohammadhadi Sarawi and Gabriel Rosillo, no one can stop Artur on his way to gold. This time, he will not make even the slightest mistake.
In terms of training and character, he has no equal. Since 2021, he has reached the finals of all major tournaments without exception and will go to Paris as a clear contender for a medal. Artur ranks first in the world rankings and is a seeded participant in the Olympic Games. According to the rules of the United World Wrestling, the positions of the seeded participants in the tournament grid are already known, and they will be able to meet each other only in the 1/4 finals. Unseeded participants will find out their opponents only after the draw.
One of Artur's opponents at the tournament is the same World Championship finalist from Cuba, Gabriel Rosillo. They will be able to meet only in the quarterfinals. As already mentioned, the rematch will be merciless, and Artur will be fully prepared for this fight. In the tournament grid, Gabriel is Artur's only opponent who can seriously compete with him in the fight for the final. The other wrestlers are significantly inferior to Artur in level, although they should not be underestimated.
In the lower part of the grid, a semifinal is expected between Iranian Mohammadhadi Sarawi and Abubakar Khaslakhanov. Both wrestlers demonstrated a high level of training and professionalism, so this fight also promises to be interesting and tense.
For Artur, these will be the fourth Olympic Games. He is a three-time Olympic medalist and has a full set of medals. This time, he is trying to repeat the history of 2016 and return with a gold medal around his neck.
