On April 20, at the European Boxing Championships 2024, four Armenian boxers performed for the Armenian national team: Gurgen Madoyan, Rafael Hovhannisyan, Narek Manasyan and Davit Chaloyan. Gurgen Madoyan and Narek Manasyan won their victories.
Narek Manasyan (92 kg) defeated the representative of Slovakia David Michalek by unanimous decision of judges (4-0) and advanced to the 1/4 finals of the European Boxing Championships. Manasyan's next opponent is Andrei Zaplitnii from Moldova.
Gurgen Madoyan (71 kg) defeated Hungarian boxer Romeo Buza by unanimous decision of judges (5-0) and advanced to the 1/8 finals of the European Boxing Championships. Madoyan's next opponent is Stefan Savkovic.
Rafael Hovhannisyan (80 kg) lost to the representative of Northern Macedonia. After watching the review of the fight, the judges put the scores 4-3 in favor of Arjan Iseni.
The first round was won by Rafael, the second round was won by Iseni, the third round was won by Rafael, the judges' scores were 3-2 in favor of the Armenian.
But for some reason they decided to involve two more judges, they watched the fight and put 4-3 in favor of the Macedonian.
Davit Chaloyan (+92 kg) got a leg injury in the second round of the fight against Austrian Ahmed Hagag and could not continue the fight. He will leave the European Championship. We wish Davit a speedy recovery.
