On August 20, the first finals of the 2024 U17 World Championship in Greco-Roman wrestling took place in Amman. Two Armenian athletes fought for bronze, and both secured victories, becoming medalists at the world championship.
Yurik Mkhitaryan (55 kg) won his bronze medal match against Iranian wrestler Amirali Heydari via pinfall (tushé). The champion in this weight category was American Jayden Rainey, who defeated Kazakhstan’s Alpamys Bolatuly in the final.
Narek Grigoryan (65 kg) won his bronze medal match against Uzbek wrestler Fayozbek Yeshmirzayev with a score of 1-1. The champion in this weight category was Iran’s Amir Saedi Nava, who defeated Ukrainian Vladyslav Pokotylo in the final.
Tomorrow, Marat Achemyan (45 kg) from the Armenian team will fight in the final against Russian Aslanbek Kostoyev.
