Today, on 2 May, Pogoni will play in the Polish Cup final against Wisław Kraków, a team from the First League. If Pogoń manages to win, it will be the first trophy for the club in its 76-year history.
For Vahan Bichkhachyan, on the other hand, the victory may bring the second trophy in his career. He has won the title only once before, it was in 2017 when Shirak defeated Pyunik 3-0 in the Armenian Cup final. Vahan was 17 years old at the time and scored the second goal of the match. After that, the Armenian national team midfielder didn't win any more trophies, but today it might happen.
Polish Cup Final: ‘Pogoń’ - ‘Wisław Kraków’
Match time: 17:00 (MSC), 18:00 (ERE). Vahan Bichakhchyan will start the match on the bench.
Before the match, Vahan Bichakhchyan gave an interview to Sport.pl.
‘We are in for a historic match. We see and feel that it has been many years since we have had such an important meeting for our city. There are a lot of emotions, a lot of hopes, and there is also the belief that we can bring the Polish Cup to Szczecin. I've been here for two and a half years and I can see how the fans' attitude has changed. Now everyone says it's time to win the first trophy in the club's history. The first trophy is always the most delicious.’
‘It's always a great moment and I'm happy to play another final. It doesn't matter if it's Poland or Armenia. A final is a final and a trophy is a trophy. It's always associated with great emotions and extra energy. When you play in a match like this, you know you can achieve something historic. This is always the biggest motivation for any football player. In that Armenian Cup final I was 17 years old, but I played from the first minute and scored one of the goals. It was a fantastic moment at the very beginning of my career, which I will never forget. But now it's time to win a second cup! We are giving 100 per cent to bring it to Szczecin.’
Vahan Bichakhchyan's goal in the 2017 Armenian Cup final.
‘Yes, I have previously played in big stadiums. For example, in the last qualifications for the Armenian national team we played against Ireland in Dublin or against Turkey in Istanbul. This second match was particularly special, as clashes between Turkey and Armenia always evoke additional emotions. There were 50,000 people against us in Istanbul. there were no fans, our fans were not there at all. There is no denying that we had high hopes for this match, and we played well on the pitch - 1:1,’ Vahan Bichakhchyan said.
