A press conference with the participation of representatives of the Armenian Hockey Federation and the Armenian Hockey League will be held in the near future, the main topic of which will be the participation of the Armenian national team in the World Championship. Earlier Armenia expressed its desire to host the tournament, but the decision on the venue has not been finalised yet.
The 2024 World Hockey Championship in the 4th division took place in Kuwait in April 20242. The tournament was attended by 4 national teams: Mongolia, Kuwait, Indonesia and Malaysia. As a result of the tournament Mongolia won and went to the 3rd division, and Iran from the 3rd division went down to the 4th.
Let us remind that the last time the Armenian national team participated in the tournament in 2010 in Division III. Then the tournament was held in Yerevan, after which Armenia was disqualified from Hockey because of the issue related to the participation of players not eligible to play for the Armenian national team. The team was given a technical defeat in all matches with a score of 5:0.
Now Armenia has its own AHL hockey league and the squad is made up of players from the league, so everything is done according to the rules to avoid disqualification.
