On August 2, the last competition day of the Olympic Games in judo was held in Paris, during which medalists and new champions were determined in the weight categories up to +78 kg (women) and up to +100 kg (men).
In the weight category up to 78 kg among women, the Olympic champion was the judoka from Brazil Beatis Souza. On the way to the final, she defeated the representative of Nicaragua Izaiana Marenco in the 1/8 finals, then in the 1/4 finals she defeated the bronze medalist of the world championship from Korea Kim Ha-Yun, and in the semi-finals she was stronger than the world champion from France Romana Dikko.
In the final fight, Beatis defeated the representative of Israel Raza Gershko and won the title of Olympic champion.
In the weight category up to +100 kg among men, the Olympic champion was the French judoka Teddy Riner. On his way to the final, he defeated UAE representative Magomedmar Magomedov in the 1/8 finals, then in the 1/4 finals he beat Olympic medalist from Georgia Guram Tushishvili, and in the semi-finals he defeated four-time Asian medalist from Tajikistan Temur Rakhimov.
In the final fight for gold, Teddy Riner defeated world champion from Korea Kim Min-jong and won the title of Olympic champion.
