On July 29, the third day of the Olympic Judo Games was held in Paris, during which medalists and new champions were determined in the weight categories up to 57 kg (women) and up to 73 kg (men).
In the weight category up to 57 kg (women), the Olympic champion was Krista Deguchi from Canada. On her way to the final, Krista defeated two-time Pan American Games medalist from Panama Cristina Jimenez in the 1/8 finals, then in the 1/4 finals she overcame two-time European Championship medalist from Serbia Maritsa Peresic, and in the semi-finals she defeated two-time Olympic medalist from France Sarah-Leonie Sizika. In the final fight, Krista successfully defeated the current world champion from Korea Ha Mi-Mi, becoming the Olympic champion.
In the weight category up to 73 kg (men), the Olympic champion was Azerbaijani Hidayat Heydarov. In the 1/8 finals, he defeated Israeli Tohar Butbulya, in the 1/4 finals he defeated two-time winner of the Pan-American Championship from Canada Arthur Margelidon, and in the semi-finals he defeated European champion, athlete from Kosovo Akil Kzhakova. In the final fight, Hidayat defeated Frenchman Joan Gabu and won the title of Olympic champion.
