Head coach of the Armenian weightlifting team Pashik Alaverdyan named three weightlifters who will go to the 2024 Olympic Games.
As is known, Armenia has won 5 quotas among men. However, only three of them can go to Paris. Andranik Karapetyan won the quota in 89kg and his participation was not discussed, as he is the only one from Armenia in this weight. But in 102kg and +102kg the quota was won by 2 athletes each, it was necessary to choose one of them, and the choice has already been made.
In 102kg Armenia will be represented by Garik Karapetyan, who took the second place in the world ranking. Samvel Gasparyan is currently injured, so he gave way to his younger comrade.
Varazdat Lalayan will compete in the super heavyweight +102kg, he took the third place in the world ranking, beating Simon Martirosyan. Pashik Alaverdyan said that with such a result Lalayan could not fail to go to the Olympic Games.
