Day 8 results. Olympic boxing qualification in Bangkok


On May 31, the eighth day of the Second Olympic Qualifying Boxing Tournament took place in Bangkok. The tournament is nearing its conclusion, and the final bouts for quotas in many weight categories are already known. In the men's 63.5 kg and 71 kg weight categories, the holders of four Olympic quotas have already been determined.

On the eighth day of the tournament, four boxers from the Armenian team competed, but only two of them managed to win.

Rafael Hovhannisyan (80 kg) defeated Iranian Meysam Gheshlaghi in the quarter-finals of the Olympic qualification in Bangkok. The bout ended with Hovhannisyan winning by unanimous decision of the judges, 5-0. Rafael Hovhannisyan has earned the chance to fight for an Olympic quota against Dominican Cristian Pinales.

Narek Manasyan (92 kg) lost in the round of 16 to Belgian Victor Schelstraete by a split decision of the judges, 1-4.

Ani Ovsepyan (66 kg) defeated New Zealander Kara Ware by knockout and earned the chance to fight for a quota against Irishwoman Grainne Walsh.

Anush Grigoryan (50 kg) lost to Irishwoman Daina Moorehouse.
