On August 1, at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, quarterfinal matches were held in boxing for three weight categories: up to 63.5 kg and 92 kg for men, and up to 54 kg for women. As a result of the quarterfinals in these categories, 4 semifinalists were determined who will compete for the medals.
Those who lose in the semifinals will become bronze medalists of the Olympic Games, so the medalists in these categories are already known.
In the up to 63.5 kg category, athletes from Canada, France, Georgia, and Cuba secured medals. In the 92 kg category — athletes from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, and Spain. In the 54 kg women's category — representatives from China, North Korea, South Korea, and Turkey.
In the men's 63.5 kg weight category, it is noteworthy that the current world and Asian champion, Ruslan Abdullaev of Uzbekistan, unexpectedly lost to Wyatt Sanford from Canada.
Another Olympic favorite, Aibek Oralbay from Kazakhstan, competing in the 92 kg category, also stopped at the quarterfinal stage, losing to Loren Alfonso from Cuba, representing Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that yesterday the semifinalists in the up to 60 kg category for women were determined.
