On the eighth day of the Olympic Games, August 3, 29 sets of medals were contested. China is still leading the medal standings with 16 gold medals, but the USA has taken second place. The Americans have twice as many silver medals as China, but they trail in gold medals: 16 for China and 14 for the USA.

August 3 was a historic day for the Saint Lucia national team. Track and field athlete Julien Alfred won gold in Paris in the 100 meters. This is the first Olympic medal in history Saint Lucia. A total of 5 athletes went to Paris from Saint Lucia.
