Lieutenant Colonel of the Armenian Armed Forces Sarkis Stepanyan performed at the World Para-Athletics Championships 2024 in Kobe, Japan.
In the shot put (FS 55), Stepanyan took 7th place with a career best of 10.62 metres. This event is a qualifying event for the Paralympic Games 2024 in Paris.
Sarkis Stepanyan was severely injured by a mine explosion and lost three limbs in the summer of 2014 when he was carrying a wounded colleague across a minefield while repelling sabotage by Azerbaijani forces in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic). Months after being wounded, he started walking and playing sports.
Smbat Karapetyan will also perform in the Armenian national team here - on 23 May in the 100-metre wheelchair race.
