The stadium of the "Gandzasar" football club in the city of Kapan will be reconstructed and brought up to the proper condition corresponding to international competition standards. This was announced by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, at a meeting of the Government of the Republic of Armenia.
Currently, the infrastructure of the Kapan stadium (stands, locker rooms, restrooms, etc.) requires major repairs. With the adoption of the decision, it is planned to attract the necessary funds for the construction of a sports complex that meets international standards.
"It is very important that the existing stadium in Kapan is brought to the proper condition and meets the necessary standards. There is an opportunity to attract investments from the Football Federation of Armenia through international channels, particularly regarding the installation of the lawn. After the decision is made, these processes will be organized more efficiently," said Zhanna Andreasyan, adding that under the current conditions it is impossible to hold Armenian Premier League championship matches at the Kapan city stadium, while the local "Gandzasar" club won the championship title in the 2023/24 Armenian First League season and earned the right to play in the Premier League. In the current situation, "Gandzasar" will play its matches in Vayk.
The "Gandzasar" stadium in Kapan was built in 1963 and has a capacity of 3,500 spectators. Previously, it was the home stadium of the "Lernagorts" club, which existed from 1963 to 2006.
