Construction works of Simon Martirosyan Weightlifting School started in 2021. The total cost of the project is estimated at 541 million 884.6 thousand drams.
Simon Martirosyan himself comes from the neighbouring village of Haykashen. He started weightlifting at the age of 12 and trained in Geghakert, which is located 18 km away from Haykashen. Now there will be a sports school named after him near his native village.
Simon Martirosyan (born in 1997) is a two-time European champion (2017, 2019), two-time world champion (2018, 2019), two-time Olympic medallist (2016, 2020).
